YAKINIKU DON
Ingredients:
For the bowl:
- 1 lb rib eye or NY steak
- 1 green onion/scallion
- 4 Tbsp Yakiniku Sauce (see below)
- 2 servings cooked Japanese short-grain rice
- ½ tsp toasted white sesame seeds (for garnish)
For the sauce:
- ¼ sweet onion, grated, with juice
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- ⅛ tsp ginger, grated
- 1 tbsp gochujang
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- ½ Tbsp toasted white sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
Step by step:
- Before starting - make your steamed rice! I use this rice cooker!
Make the sauce:
- In a jar or bowl, grate the onion, make sure to keep the juices
- Grate the ginger and add to the jar and mince the garlic cloves. Add gochujang, soy sauce, sugar, and toasted white sesame seeds.
- Add toasted sesame oil and mix well.
- Set aside until ready to use!
Make the beef bowl:
- First, thinly slice the green onion
- Slice the steak 1/4 inch thick
- Preheat a large pan at medium high heat. When it is hot, add sliced beef leaving some space in between (you will have to cook beef in batches)
- Sear on both side for 15-20 seconds, til each side is golden brown, remove from heat when each side is done. Continue this process until all slices are seared!
- Once all slices are done, add the beef back to the pan and add in your sauce, about 4 tbsp. Cook until sauce is bubbling and the meat is well coated!
- Serve over a bed of rice and sprinkle with green onion and toasted sesame seeds!
- Enjoy!
